Should I Drink Pineapple Juice Before Surgery?

The following question was submitted to us by Joannie of Columbus Ohio. She asked, should I drink pineapple juice before surgery? Well first and foremost, you should never do anything before surgery without first consulting with your doctor. However, raw homemade unpasteurized pineapple juice does contain the proteolytic enzyme Bromelain, which has been scientifically proven to both prevent and reduce swelling. It's used in medicine to treat a variety of ailments, such as arthritis, muscle pain, and many others. Supposedly if you drink an abundant amount of raw homemade pineapple juice in the week running up to a surgery, the healing process will move along more quickly, and there will be substantially less swelling. Before trying this remedy out, again please consult with your doctor, as there is always the potential for adverse side effects.
